Tomie dePaola Award entry
My submission for SCBWI’s Tomie dePaolo Award contest, based on a passage from Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. I actually got it in on time this year!
Be sure to check out all the wonderfully creative entries from other SCBWI members at the Unofficial Gallery–and best of luck to all!
Another good dog.
Boo!
In honor of the day . . .
This creepy little picture grew out of an idea generated during last year’s PiBoIdMo challenge–Day 7 as a matter of fact. So far, it’s just a pair of rhyming couplets and this image, but I think it’s going somewhere.
Happy Halloween, and Happy PiBoIdMo Eve to all!
Good dog.
This little guy is the hero of a chapter book in progress. He needs a look that will allow color to be an important element in his design, so I’m playing with shapes more than usual.
I didn’t have any particular breed in mind when I wrote the character, but his task in the story is to figure out where he is and why, so giving him short legs that force him to be looking up most of the time seems to reinforce that inquisitive vibe.
I settled on sort of a cross between a dachshund and a corgi– which I thought was a new idea, until I googled “dorgi.” Cute alert! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lushl-s35Ek
